    Who We Are

Behavioral Health & Substance Abuse Network, PLLC (BHSAN) is a private psychotherapy practice in the Washington DC and DMV area. We provide clinical counseling services for individuals, families, and groups. They include individual therapy, family therapy, marriage therapy, conjoint therapy, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment and assessment. We also provide clinical supervision for student social workers and substance abuse counselors.

BHSAN’s mission is to empower individuals to regain control over their lives, by providing quality mental health care, upholding confidentiality and privacy, and by valuing the individuals’ right to be treated with dignity and respect, free from judgment and blame

Ben Swain, founder and CEO, has been a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and licensed advanced, Level II, Substance Abuse Professional (CAC II) for more than 25-years.  His ability to connect with people from all walks of life stem from his own humble beginnings. His passion for helping people is based upon the idea that all people deserve a place to be who they are, and feel comfortable and safe to explore, improve, and thrive. He is committed to creating a secure milieu free from judgment and blame.

Ben gained his experience in both the public and private sectors, working with diverse populations, adults, youth, detained and incarcerated, the dual diagnosed population, and those with co-occurring disorders. He was instrumental in developing one of the first in-house dual diagnosis programs for incarcerated youth in upstate New York. He also assisted in developing one of the first diversion programs for youth and adults that enabled individuals suffering from substance abuse and/or mental health challenges to receive professional help and treatment rather than detainment and incarceration. Additionally, Ben has extensive experience working with persons suffering from childhood and adult trauma, providing clinical care to families and children suffering from abuse and neglect.

BHSAN is dedicated to helping individuals and families who want behavioral health and/or substance abuse care. In consideration of the ongoing spread of COVID-19, we provide this benefit through our Telehealth online services via dedicated client portal, which is HIPPA compliant, protects your confidentiality and privacy, expands access to care to you, reduces disease exposure for staff and clients, while in the comfort of your own home through your computer or your smartphone. We also offer evening and weekend hours to accommodate your schedule.
